St Peter’s Preschool has been proudly serving families in the South Tamworth community since 1969. Nestled in the original church buildings at 34 Vera Street, our preschool has long been a place where young children begin their journey of learning in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
The Preschool was founded by Reverend Peter Smart, the then Senior Pastor of St Peter’s Anglican Church, as a Christian outreach of the church. His vision to provide high-quality early childhood education grounded in Christian values continues to inspire our work today.
In 1987, extensions to the original church building were officially opened, and these expanded facilities continue to house our Preschool to this day.
We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2019 — a joyful occasion that welcomed back past staff, committee members, and families, and highlighted the special place St Peter’s holds in the hearts of so many.
Over the years, we’ve had the joy of welcoming second-generation families, with parents who once attended as children returning with their own little ones. These enduring connections speak to the lasting impact and trusted reputation our Preschool has built within the Tamworth region.
Management Committee
St Peter’s Preschool is an outreach of St Peter’s South Tamworth Anglican Church. We are an Incorporated Association, and all fee-paying parents automatically become members. Our governance is guided by a constitution which ensures strong community involvement and clear leadership.
The constitution stipulates that the Senior Minister of the church or their appointed delegate, is the President of the management committee. In addition, the committee includes three parent representatives and two members from the St Peter’s Church. This committee is elected annually at our March AGM.
